Annika Belshaw is competing in her first Winter Olympics at Milan Cortina 2026, looking to add to Team USA’s medal count. And on Sunday, the skier took part in the women’s large hill individual ski jumping event, beginning with the trial round in the morning.
In the event, each athlete takes two jumps off a large ramp designed for longer distances. Scores are based on how far they jump and how cleanly they land, with small adjustments added or subtracted depending on wind conditions.
The trial run went well for Belshaw, who earned 51 points to place 29th after jumping 113 meters at 96.4 kilometers per hour. She was the second-best Team USA skier in the trial round, trailing only Josie Johnson, who finished 13th with 67.3 points.
The first round produced a similar result for Belshaw, as she again placed 29th to qualify for the final. She recorded 43.8 distance points, 49 judges points and 5.7 compensation points for a total of 98.5. The top 30 ski jumpers from the opening round advanced to the final, including Johnson with 109 points in 21st and fellow U.S. ski jumper Paige Jones with 97.9 points in 30th.
However, after advancing to the final round, Belshaw was officially listed as a “DSQ” on the Winter Olympics website, meaning she was disqualified from the event. Of the 30 athletes in the final round, she was the only one disqualified, while Jones and Johnson finished 28th and 29th, respectively. Norway’s Anna Odine Stroem claimed the gold medal with a total score of 284.8 points.

While no reason was immediately specified for Belshaw’s disqualification, NBC later reported that her skis measured 1 centimeter longer than allowed.
