The PWHL is more than halfway through its 2025–26 Takeover Tour. By the end of the tour, the league will have visited 11 different cities across Canada and the United States.
A few cities were chosen for multiple dates. One of those cities, Halifax, has already seen both of its games and brought in a combined attendance of 20,890 fans.
I spoke with fans on the PWHL Discord to hear their experiences at the two Halifax games. Responses have been edited for conciseness and consistency.
December 17, 2025 | Montréal: 2, Toronto: 1 (shootout)
January 11, 2026 | Ottawa: 2, Boston: 1 (shootout)
Which game did you attend?
I attended both Halifax games.
Was this your first PWHL game?
Yes, and second.
Did you travel from farther away, or are you local to the city?
I live locally.
What’s your favourite PWHL team?
Victoire!
Who’s your favourite PWHL player?
Poulin, Stacey, Roque, Maltais.
What was your highlight of the game?
The shootouts! Poulin’s goal especially.
What was your highlight of the overall experience?
The energy in the barn. Everyone was so loud and so welcoming, and I hope the players felt it too!
Which game did you attend?
I attended both Halifax Takeover Tour games.
Was this your first PWHL game?
Yes, and we were so excited! We attended the Rivalry Series game in Halifax last year, so we got a chance to see lots of PWHL players, but we hadn’t been to a league game. We had hoped for Halifax on the Takeover Tour but never would have dreamed we would get two games here. We’re feeling very lucky.
Did you travel from farther away, or are you local to the city?
We live an hour and a half outside the city. The January 11 game was a sketchy drive—freezing rain—but we were not going to miss it.
What’s your favourite PWHL team?
We generally cheer for Montréal, but we’ve been watching every league game since season 1. We tell people that we’re Montréal fans for now, with the hope that Halifax will be our ultimate team! (Also, Mae Batherson is a local baddie, so we have to support.)
Who’s your favourite PWHL player?
Kristin O’Neill and Ella Shelton. I love the way O’Neill battles for pucks and I think she’s massively underrated by the fans. But I really love that you can see so many different styles of play in the league, so I love lots of players for different reasons.
What was your highlight of the game?
So many, I can’t even count. We brought a “Hi Rob Pizzo” sign and a “Sorry Kenzie & Cheryl” sign for when it looked like we might get overtime. For the second game, we had our homemade mock-up of PWHL Halifax jerseys and had a great time at the walk-ins telling the players it would look good on them next year.
What was your highlight of the overall experience?
Being in community around something that has been so fun for me and my partner. We have friends who have watched games, but no one who knows the jokes or the stories. But so many people had that energy and engagement at the game. We left gushing about every moment and daydreaming (brainstorming the most unhinged PWHL Halifax team names).
Which game did you attend?
I attended both Halifax games.
Was this your first PWHL game?
It was!
Did you travel from farther away, or are you local to the city?
I am local to Halifax.
What’s your favourite PWHL team?
Toronto Sceptres due to the number of Nova Scotian players on the team (but hopefully it’ll be Halifax one day).
Who’s your favourite PWHL player?
Kali Flanagan. Close second is Allie Munroe.
What was your highlight of the game?
Kori Cheverie being able to coach professionally at home(ish).
What was your highlight of the overall experience?
It was so exciting to watch professional women’s hockey in my town after a summer of watching our first professional women’s soccer team! It was very funny to see how powerful Atlantic Canada pride is. Anyone (even a referee) who was from Nova Scotia, New Brunswick, or Newfoundland was cheered loudly. The amount of support for Halifax Tides FC is still growing, so I think a Halifax PWHL team would be much beloved as well.
Stay tuned for testimonials from the other Takeover Tour games!
