Sceptres sign Maggie Connors to one-year contract extension

One of the PWHL originals is sticking around the hockey mecca of the world for another season.

On Wednesday, the Toronto Sceptres announced the team has signed forward Maggie Connors to a one-year contract extension for the 2025-26 campaign.

“From day one, this city has truly felt like home — the fans, the community, and the entire organization have made it such a special place to play,” Connors said in a release. “We’ve built something really strong here over the past two seasons, and I’m excited to continue the chase of bringing a Walter Cup to Toronto. Season 3 can’t come soon enough.”

Connors has been with Toronto since she was taken by the team in the 11th round of the inaugural PWHL Draft in 2023. While she hasn’t been a scoring sensation, the Newfoundlander has been an important depth and energy player for the team in its first two years of existence.

The former Princeton Tigers’ best season came in her rookie year, scoring three goals and three assists for six points in 24 games. Unfortunately, Connors couldn’t find that same scoring touch this past season, scoring just two goals in the regular season, averaging around seven minutes of ice time per game.

She added a goal and an assist in this year’s playoffs, but the Sceptres still lost to the eventual Walter Cup champion Minnesota Frost (again) in four games.

In 54 appearances with Toronto, Connors has scored five goals and three assists for eight points, posting a plus/minus rating of -6.

Connors joins a cast of characters who have already signed back on with the Sceptres for at least next season. Natalie Spooner, Kali Flanagan and Jesse Compher each signed extensions since free agency opened. On top of that, Toronto added Elaine Chuli and Claire Dalton, formerly of the Montreal Victoire.
