Magic 8 Ball predictions for the 2025 New England Patriots

This year, we’re using an online version of the Magic 8 Ball to answer a few questions about the New England Patriots. Read on to see what's in store for the team’s top players in 2025.

Will QB Drake Maye finish as a top-10 passer?

Magic 8 Ball says: Better not tell you now.

Obviously, something is giving the Magic 8 Ball pause. Could it be that Maye, the third overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft, finished last season as the league’s 24th-leading passer? With 2,276 yards, Maye fell well behind fellow rookies Bo Nix (3,775) and Jayden Daniels (3,568.)

Maybe it’s the fact that he failed to throw for 300 yards in any game. Maye’s best game came in Week 11 in a 28-22 loss to the Rams, where he threw for a career-high 282 yards and two scores.

He also played well by completing 82.6% of his passes in a 30-17 loss to the Cardinals and 80% of throws in a 25-24 loss to the Colts. Promising numbers, but  the Magic 8 Ball could be waiting to see what happens with the team’s new wide receiver.

Will WR Stefon Diggs make an impact in 2024?

Magic 8 Ball says: You may rely on it.

He certainly can’t make things any worse. New England passed for a league-low 176.1 yards last season, with veteran tight end Hunter Henry leading the team with 674 yards.

The Patriots signed Diggs to a three-year, $63M contract in the offseason, knowing full well that the 31-year-old receiver would need time to recover from the ACL injury that ended his 2024 season with the Texans after eight games. According to reports, Diggs is ahead of schedule in recovery and worked with Maye in private sessions throughout the spring.

Prior to the injury, Diggs was on pace for a seventh straight 1,000-yard season. He actually led the league with 1,535 yards in 2020, while making the first of four straight Pro Bowls. New England hasn’t had a Pro Bowl pass-catcher or 1,000-yard receiver since Julian Edelman had 100 catches for 1,117 yards in 2019.

Will RB TreVeyon Henderson lead the Patriots in rushing?

Magic 8 Ball says: As I see it.

Great news for this year’s second-round pick, not so much for last year’s leading rusher, Rhamondre Stevenson. A fourth-round pick in 2021, Stevenson has averaged 766.5 yards per year with New England, including 801 yards and a career-high seven touchdowns in 2024.

Henderson ran for 1,248 yards as a true freshman in 2021 but struggled with a foot injury during his sophomore and junior seasons. Finally recovered, the 5-foot-10, 208-pound running back rushed for 1,016 yards to help Ohio State win its ninth national championship in 2024.

At the moment, Henderson remains one of many unsigned second-round picks. That could change now that the 49ers have signed defensive tackle Alfred Collins to a four-year, $10.3M contract. The Patriots took Henderson (38) five spots ahead of Collins (43) in the draft, which could shape the parameters of a deal.
