Sophie Cunningham gets shoutout from NFL star after sticking up for Caitlin Clark

Indiana Fever guard Sophie Cunningham made it clear on Tuesday night that she has Caitlin Clark's back, and at least one NFL player was impressed with the show of loyalty.

Several players got into heated altercations during the Fever's 88-71 win over the Connecticut Sun on Tuesday. Clark got into it with Sun guard Jacy Sheldon multiple times, the second of which involved the reigning WNBA Rookie of the Year being hit in the face and shoved to the ground.

Then with less than a minute remaining in the game, Sheldon had a meaningless fast-break opportunity and was dragged to the ground by Cunningham. Sheldon, Cunningham and Sun forward Lindsay Allen were ejected following the foul and ensuing scrum.

Los Angeles Rams linebacker Jared Verse appreciated that Cunningham sent a message on behalf of Clark. Verse shared the clip on social media and wrote, "THIS STANDING ON BUSINESS!!!!"

Cunningham was assessed a flagrant 2 foul. She was fined under standard WNBA rules but not suspended.

Clark is the most popular player in the WNBA, so it is no surprise that fans — including Verse — appreciated the way Cunningham took up for her teammate. Cunningham has even seen a massive spike in jersey sales since the game.
