With a spotty track record in the playoffs, Karl-Anthony Towns has been watched under a microscope during the New York Knicks' deep run. Even after his latest game-saving performance, some remain skeptical that he is a long-term solution for the franchise.
Overall, the Knicks' big splash for Towns has paid off for them. He was one of the top stars in the East this year and continues to aid them on their quest for a championship. That said, he's still had his fair share of lowlights.
Before the fourth quarter of Game 3, the discourse around Towns was glowingly negative. He managed to turn things around in a big way, erupting for 20 points in the final period to lift the Knicks to a win. This bought Towns some time, but not much.
During Monday's episode of "The Herd," Colin Cowherd did not hold back with his true thoughts on the Knicks star. He feels strongly that they should move him this summer and bring in Kevin Durant to pair with Jalen Brunson.
"I would move off a talented, erratic KAT," Cowherd said. "They need KD. Because you're gonna get KAT's points, you're gonna get 23 to 25 a game, and he can play complementary basketball with Jalen Brunson. KAT really doesn't."

Since signing Brunson in free agency, the Knicks have made it clear they want to contend right now. They doubled down on this last summer, parting with almost all of their assets to bring in Towns and Mikal Bridges. If this year doesn't end in a title, they're sure to explore any and all options to get better.
From a fit standpoint, Durant could make sense for the Knicks. He doesn't need a large amount of touches to be effective and is still one of the greatest scorers the game has ever seen. Pairing him and Brunson on a roster loaded with defense and length would instantly put New York in the title mix.
Parting with Towns after just one season would be a wild turn of events for the Knicks, but as a star-level talent in his prime, he's the best chance at landing another premier talent.
