Minnesota Timberwolves star Anthony Edwards encountered an alien on Sunday — and left without an answer for what he had just seen.
“Ant,” of course, was referring to San Antonio Spurs superstar Victor Wembanyama, who posed a relentless challenge for Anthony.
Wherever Edwards went, the 7-foot-4 Wembanyama seemed to be waiting, looming throughout Minnesota’s 104–103 win.
“I was confused,” Edwards said of Wembanyama’s presence in the lane, per Minnesota’s Fox9 KMSP. “I don’t know what to do right now cause he’s so tall.”
Edwards mentioned a late possession in which he passed up an open jump shot and opted to drive against Wemby one-on-one before hitting a game-winning runner.
Surely Ant’s not alone. Plenty of players, if not all the league, have felt his pain. Wemby is averaging 3.5 blocks per game for his career.
Wembanyama's height, combined with his athleticism and basketball IQ, routinely leaves opponents feeling as if they’d encountered something from out of this world.
“He’s so tall. He take(s) everything. He take away layups, jumpshot,” Edwards continued. “He's got good feet. He can move. He’s one of a kind.”

Referring to his decision to pass up a jump shot that Wemby was defending, Anthony said: “[Wemby] probably would’ve blocked that [expletive].”
In most games, that’s a fairly safe bet. Just not on Sunday.
Wembanyama returned to Earth during the Spurs’ road loss to Edwards’ Timberwolves. He did not record a block, but tallied 29 points and seven boards and affected numerous shots in and around the paint.
Edwards finished with 23 points, including the winning bucket, three assists and another otherworldly encounter.
