Panthers' Brad Marchand out day-to-day with undisclosed ailment

When speaking to the media, Florida Panthers head coach Paul Maurice announced that forward Brad Marchand will not be in the lineup when the team faces the Montreal Canadiens.

The veteran winger is considered day-to-day with an undisclosed ailment.

Maurice didn’t rule Marchand out to return on Saturday, when the Panthers finish up their trip through Eastern Canada against the Ottawa Senators.

Maurice didn’t exactly reveal what is ailing Marchand, but something was clearly amiss in the Halifax native during Tuesday night’s matchup with the Toronto Maple Leafs.

Marchand is day to day and won’t play tonight, per Maurice.

He hasn’t been ruled out for Saturday’s game in Ottawa.

In the second period against the Atlantic Division rival, Marchand took a hit from Leafs forward Bobby McMann. The incident resulted in Marchand not coming out for the third period.

Marchand was credited with 11:41 of ice time across 17 shifts, posting one shot on goal on Tuesday night. The Panthers went on to lose the game by a final score of 4-1.

Marchand had missed just one game so far this season, returning in late October to Nova Scotia to be with his friend JP MacCallum, whose daughter had recently passed away. In 41 games, the 37-year-old has scored 23 goals and 23 assists for 46 points, leading the Panthers in scoring. He has been a key force for the two-time defending Stanley Cup champions, who have had to grind through the first half of the season without the likes of Matthew Tkachuk and captain Aleksander Barkov.

The Panthers (22-17-3) come into Thursday night fifth in the Atlantic Division, two points back of the last Wild Card spot in the Eastern Conference.
