76ers All-Star Tyrese Maxey sets new career-high in uncharacteristic way

On the heels of being selected as an All-Star starter, Tyrese Maxey helped the Philadelphia 76ers get back in the win column on Monday night. Maxey also excelled in a bit of a different way than he normally does as the 76ers beat the Indiana Pacers, 113-104.

In the win, Maxey scored 29 points while shooting 50% from the field in 40 full minutes of work. He's now averaging 30.2 points per game in 39 games played so far this season.

However, Maxey, now a two-time All-Star, did far more than just score as Philadelphia responded after back-to-back losses to the Cleveland Cavaliers. He also set a new single-game career-high with eight steals.

Not known for steals, Tyrese Maxey went wild in the 76ers' big win

Averaging just 2.1 steals per game and only 1.0 for his career, Maxey took his complete game to another level on Monday. He picked the Pacers' pockets all night long, helping to derail any Indiana momentum and maximize his team's opportunities with the ball.

Maxey's propensity for causing turnovers also made life easier for his teammates, most notably Joel Embiid, who put up 30 points of his own.

Tyrese Maxey truly did it all against the Pacers

Maxey added eight assists to go along with his eight steals and also recorded four rebounds and even a block.

Overall, Maxey is averaging 6.7 assists and 4.4 boards in addition to a career-best offensive season — he's shooting 47.5% from the field and 40.0% from three, both his highest output since the 2022-23 campaign.

The 76ers will need more of the same from Maxey moving forward in order to stay in a favorable playoff position. After the win, Philadelphia is 23-18 as the current fifth seed in the Eastern Conference, though only a half-game edge separates the 76ers from plummeting all the way down to eighth and into play-in tournament territory.
