The Buffalo Bills have had success running a variation of the tush push in recent years, so you can probably guess how Josh Allen felt about certain teams trying to ban the play this offseason.
Though Jalen Hurts and the Philadelphia Eagles are the team most associated with the tush push, the Bills have also taken advantage of the play with their own big-bodied quarterback. Only the Eagles have run the play more than Buffalo since 2022, and both teams have been extremely effective with it.
Last month, NFL owners voted on whether to ban the tush push in 2025 and beyond. The proposed ban fell just two votes shy of passing.
Allen was asked about the tush push debate during an interview with Liam McKeone of Sports Illustrated that was published on Tuesday. The reigning NFL MVP said the league made the right call.
"I'm a big believer in if you can't stop it, keep running it, right? I think that there's a few teams that do it better than others, but then you look at a few teams that try to do it, and it doesn't have the same success," Allen said. "Because, one, they maybe don't practice it enough or, two, they don't have the guys to do it. And just because a couple teams do it better than others, I don't feel like it should be banned."
Allen said the Bills will "find a different way" if the tush push is eventually banned, but he believes teams that don't like it should get better at defending against it.
Of course, Allen is not the only star player who feels that way. Eagles star Saquon Barkley had even harsher comments recently when asked about teams wanting to ban Philadelphia's favorite short-yardage play.
