When Chiefs offensive coordinator Eric Bieniemy was not chosen as the head coach for the latest round of hirings, many, including Kansas City head coach Andy Reid and quarterback Patrick Mahomes, said they were shocked that teams were not jumping at the opportunity to hire one of the brightest minds in the league. When asked about his second straight year of getting snubbed, Bieniemy said he was more focused on helping the Chiefs win a second-straight Super Bowl.
"I'm excited about the opportunity that has been presented to me," Bieniemy said. "The other stuff, I can't control that. That is out of my control. The only thing I can worry about is today and moving forward what I need to do to help our guys be at their best come Sunday."
Bieniemy acknowledged his disappointment for not being chosen by any of the six teams he interviewed with but said he knew he could "sit here and dwell in pity." Fortunately, Bieniemy has a pretty good distraction, as he hopes to help the Chiefs become the first team to win back-to-back Super Bowls since the New England Patriots in the early 2000s.
If the Chiefs do manage to win on Sunday, Bieniemy certainly deserves a healthy amount of credit for helping engineer the most potent offensive attack in recent memory. If he has two Super Bowls on his resume, it is hard to imagine that Bieniemy is not offered at least one head coaching job next time around.
