Bengals WR Tyler Boyd takes slight shot at 'basic' Bills defense

The Buffalo Bills have the No. 7 ranked defense in the NFL but that doesn’t impress Cincinnati Bengals receiver Tyler Boyd.

Speaking to reporters on Friday ahead of Cincinnati’s Monday Night Football showdown with the Buffalo Bills, Boyd took a shot the Leslie Frazier-led unit, stating the Bengals talented trio of wideouts were prepared for whatever was thrown at them.

“It’s kind of basic,” Boyd said of the Bills defense, via Bengals reporter Mike Petraglia. “They don’t do too much disguising. It’s kind of straightforward, they don’t do all the trickery things we’ve seen in a lot of defenses. But again, man, they’re playing us. So, every team kind of prepares differently for us. We’re prepared for everything; however they want to play it.”

Buffalo’s secondary has its work cut out. Boyd, Ja’Marr Chase, and Tee Higgins are one of, if the not the top receiving trio in the NFL. They have a combined 205 receptions, 298 targets, 2,693 yards, and 20 touchdowns. All three are also averaging 12.2 yards per reception or better.

However, Buffalo has several defensive backs playing at a high level.

Of cornerbacks with 125 or more coverage snaps this season, Tre’Davious White has allowed the second-fewest yards after the catch (26), ninth-fewest completions (13) and the 12th-lowest completion percentage (52), while Taron Johnson has allowed the 11th-fewest yards per reception (9.3), and Dane Jackson has the ninth-most pass breakups (nine).

Johnson and Jackson have also combined for 18 forced incompletions and three interceptions.

Something will have to give on Monday. Cincinnati has had a 100-yard receiver in nine of 16 games this season while Buffalo allows just 213.1 yards passing per game.
