Raiders owner reportedly soured on Derek Carr a while ago

While it seems the Las Vegas Raiders and quarterback Derek Carr appear headed for a mutual parting of ways, team owner Mark Davis reportedly made up his mind about Carr long ago.

In a recent column for The Athletic, Raiders reporter Vic Tafur shed some light on Davis’ true feelings for his former second-round pick.

“Mark Davis has in fact been lukewarm on Carr for a while, apparently thinking the quarterback should have overcome all the disastrous draft picks and free-agent signings and all the coaches that Davis has hired and fired since 2014,” Tafur wrote. “When Davis hired general manager Dave Ziegler and McDaniels in January, he let them make the call on continuing on with Carr.”

Carr, who signed a three-year, $121.5M extension in April, was benched this week for the Raiders final two games in favor of Jarrett Stidham.

Reports indicate that the team will reevaluate Carr’s status after the season with a trade or outright release the two most likely options.

In his nine-year career with the Raiders, Carr has thrown for 35,222 yards, 217 touchdowns and 99 interceptions while completing 64.6 percent of his passes.

He also made three Pro Bowls. Only Tom Brady, Matt Ryan, and Kirk Cousins have thrown for more yards, and just six QBs have more touchdown passes than Carr since 2014.
