Eagles on verge of breaking 46-year NFL record

The Philadelphia Eagles are one of the top rushing teams in the NFL, so it’s no surprise that they’re on the doorstep of breaking a league rushing record that’s stood for 46 years.

Philly is just three rushing touchdowns away from breaking the Pittsburgh Steelers' record of 33 rushing touchdowns in a season in the Super Bowl era, set in 1976. That year, Franco Harris led the team with 14 scores on the ground, while Rocky Bleier had five, Reggie Harrison had four and six other players combined for 10 more.

The Eagles have two players — running back Miles Sanders (11) and quarterback Jalen Hurts (13) — with double-digit rushing touchdowns, followed by Kenneth Gainwell, who has four, Boston Scott, who has two, and Gardner Minshew, who has one.

Philadelphia has a rushing touchdown in every game but one this season, including nine games with multiple rushing touchdowns, and five games with three or more scores on the ground.

The New York Giants and New Orleans Saints — Philly’s final two opponents — have allowed 15 and 14 rushing touchdowns, respectively, this season.

Hurts, who’s coming off a three-touchdown rushing performance last week against the Chicago Bears, has a rushing touchdown in five of his last six games, including three straight.

Sanders hasn’t scored on the ground in the last two weeks, but he did have two rushing touchdowns three weeks ago against the Giants.
