Aaron Rodgers shares eye-opening thoughts on young Jets stars

Smack dab in the middle of the honeymoon period as the New York Jets' new quarterback, Aaron Rodgers is saying all the right things. On Friday, the four-time MVP took time to praise some of his teammates, including two of the Jets' up-and-coming stars.

Speaking with reporters, Rodgers talked about his relationship with fellow QB Zach Wilson but went out of his way to pump up receiver Garrett Wilson and cornerback Sauce Gardner.

"We've got, at some point possibly, the best corner and the best receiver in the NFL," Rodgers said, via SNY. "It's a legit possibility for those two guys, maybe not this upcoming year — I still think Davante [Adams] is in a league of his own — but those two kids are so talented."

Wilson recorded 83 receptions for 1,103 yards and four touchdowns over 17 games. Meanwhile, Gardner posted 75 tackles and two interceptions, leading the NFL in pass defenses (20).

While Rodgers can certainly respect what Gardner brings to the defensive side of the ball, he has a vested interest in the growth of Wilson, who is likely to be his No. 1 target. Rodgers said Wilson does something to make him say "wow" at every practice while coming away impressed with who the 22-year-old is as a person.

"I love Garrett Wilson," Rodgers said. "He's got all the talent and ability. You need your best players to be the best people on your team. He's definitely one of them."

What Wilson and Gardner ultimately become remains to be seen, but they are off to tremendous starts after becoming only the third pair of teammates to sweep Rookie of the Year honors in 2022.

Expectations for both were already high, but now with the blessing of arguably one of the best quarterbacks of all time, the pressure is on Wilson and Gardner to prove Rodgers right. Although, after showing remarkable skill in year one, chances are they'll answer the bell.
