The New York Rangers head to Florida in an attempt to force a Game 7 with the Panthers. Whether they do or don't, I prefer trusting some Florida players to step up in the prop market.
One such player has really caught my eye in advance of Saturday's Game 6.
Up 3-2, I certainly expect Florida to push the pace here at home to put a bow on this series. Don't think just because they nabbed a road win in Game 5 that they're suddenly going to take their foot off the gas. This series is not over yet.
In two home games this series, the Panthers have finished with 37 and 40 shots, and in eight home games, Florida is averaging 35.25 shots per game.
As such, I expect plenty of players to hit their SOG prop, and I love the value we're getting on Sam Bennett.
Bennett is over in only two games this series, finishing with five SOG in each. Despite three unders, the volume has been there consistently. Bennett is averaging 8.0 shot attempts per game, never once shooting the puck less than six times.
Since returning from injury last round, Bennett now has 5+ attempts in every single game besides his first game back. His hit rates over time with this volume is what really paints the value picture to me.
When Bennett logs 5+ attempts, he's over 2.5 SOG in 82% of his games over the last three seasons. When he hits 6+ attempts, that rate jumps to 89%. Finally, when he shoots the puck at least seven times (which he's done in all but one game this series), Bennett is over 2.5 SOG in 92% of games over the last three years.
At this price, I simply have to back Bennett tonight and trust that these attempts can translate to pucks on net.
He's not just shooting. Bennett has really started to become a force on the ice, looking far more comfortable and disruptive over the last few games.
The numbers back that up. Bennett tops Florida in expected goals this series, and he has five points in five games, including goals in back-to-back games.
I most definitely like his goal again, but this is me playing it a bit safer.
