Edmonton Oilers star Connor McDavid may have taken on more of a playmaker role these days. Still, he reminded everyone early in Game 6 of the Western Conference Final just how dangerous a goal-scorer he is.
With the Oilers looking to clinch a trip to the Stanley Cup Final, the captain stepped up, opening the scoring with a dazzling goal 4:17 into the first period.

McDavid flashed his unbelievable dangling skills, deking his way around two defenders before placing a nifty backhand shot over the shoulder of Stars netminder Jake Oettinger.
A season after leading the league in goals (64), McDavid netted only 32 during the 2023-2024 regular season but led the league in assists (100) for a second time. It's a trend that's continued over the postseason, with the three-time Hart Trophy winner scoring only four times over 17 playoff games entering play Sunday.
The Oilers would nurse a 1-0 lead for most of the period until Zach Hyman scored his playoff-leading 14th of the postseason with 4:18 left to increase the lead to two. On the power play, Hyman snuck into the slot, rifling home a wrister off a feed from McDavid, his 26th postseason assist, which leads the NHL.

McDavid and Hyman's goals came off two of only three first-period shots for the Oilers. Nevertheless, they went into the first intermission leading 2-0, thanks to solid goaltending from Stuart Skinner, who turned away all 12 shots he faced.
Meanwhile, the Stars' offense continues to struggle against the Oilers brick-wall defense. Over the last six periods, Dallas has scored just once, a third-period tally from Wyatt Johnston in Game 5.
