Jets' Robert Saleh again leaves Aaron Rodgers minicamp questions unanswered

For the second day in a row, New York Jets head coach Robert Saleh fielded questions about the fact that starting quarterback Aaron Rodgers is missing the club's two-day mandatory minicamp as an unexcused absence.

Saleh confirmed on Wednesday he hasn't spoken with Rodgers since the coach's media availability on Tuesday. According to Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk, Saleh also said that at least some players only found out about Rodgers' absences on Tuesday because the situation was "a one-on-one conversation" and "not something the team needed to know about."

It was reported Tuesday evening that the Jets will fine Rodgers up to $50,861 per the terms of the collective bargaining agreement for his actions this week. Some may assume such a punishment implies individuals within the Jets are upset Rodgers isn't attending mandatory practices, but Saleh attempted to pour cold water over that theory.

"Aaron and I are on the exact same page," Saleh said about Rodgers' absences and about the coach using the term "unexcused" on Tuesday. "There’s no issue between Aaron or his teammates for that matter. So, like I said, we addressed it yesterday. It’s more of an issue for everyone outside the building than it is inside, and that’s about it."

As of early Wednesday afternoon, neither Saleh nor Rodgers had revealed how the signal-caller is spending his time away from the Jets.

During a Wednesday appearance on FS1's "The Carton Show," SNY NFL reporter Connor Hughes said that Rodgers' trip was planned before the minicamp dates were finalized and that Rodgers told Saleh and Co. about his intentions some time ago.

Hughes also insisted there's "no unrest inside the (Jets') building" regarding Rodgers' whereabouts.

The Athletic's Zack Rosenblatt noted that "the Jets aren’t going to make or miss the playoffs because of their quarterback’s attendance at a two-day minicamp in June with light practices, no pads and no hitting, with many of his offensive teammates not even practicing either due to injuries."

Such takes are fair but ignore that Saleh and/or Rodgers could've prevented this matter from becoming "more of an issue for everyone outside the building than it is inside" by addressing it during organized team activities.

After all, history shows that a legendary quarterback suddenly leaving his team amid preparations for a season can be related to a matter that negatively impacts his club throughout the fall months.
