With just 75 days left until the 2024-25 college football season kicks-off here are five quarterbacks with the potential to have a breakout season.
LSU QB Garrett Nussmeier
Nussmeier has been a backup QB at LSU for three years and with the departure of Jayden Daniels, he will finally take over the reins in Baton Rouge.
The Tigers' wide receiver room will be without star receivers Malik Nabers and Brian Thomas Jr. However, Nussmeier will still have plenty of options as LSU returns Kyren Lacy and Chris Hilton, who both showed flashes last season.
Nussmeier threw for 395 yards and three touchdowns against Wisconsin in the Reli-Quest Bowl last year proving why he is a breakout candidate in 2024.

Miami QB Cameron Ward
The Hurricanes may have finally solved its QB problem, picking up Ward from Washington State this offseason. Ward is coming off his best collegiate season, accounting for 3,735 yards and 25 touchdowns with the Cougars in 2023.
Ward will be paired with Hurricanes WR Xavier Restrepo, who accounted for 1,102 yards last year. This will be the most talented team Ward has gotten to play for so far in his career, which makes him a perfect candidate for a breakout season in 2024.

USC QB Miller Moss
Head coach Lincoln Riley has produced some of the best QBs in his coaching tenure, including Baker Mayfield, Kyler Murray and the first pick in this year's NFL Draft, Caleb Williams. It is now time for Moss to take over as Riley’s next highly talented signal-caller.
Moss flashed his ability versus Louisville in the Holiday Bowl last season, throwing for a record six touchdowns. The Trojans did lose Tahj Robinson and Brendan Rice to the draft, but Riley has always been able to find playmakers for his QBs to throw to.

Tennessee QB Nico Iamaleava
The former highly coveted prospect Iamaleava has Volunteers fans excited about the 2024 football season. Iamaleava got his chance to shine versus Iowa in the Cheez-It Bowl, leading Tennessee to a 35-0 victory over the Hawkeyes. Iamaleava has the arm talent that impresses any NFL scout.
The Volunteers also return a couple of elite pass catchers in Bru McCoy and Squirrel White. Head coach Josh Heupel’s fast-paced offense and Iamaleava’s passing abilities are a recipe for success in 2024.
The Nico Iamaleava era is officially underway for Tennessee.

Kansas State QB Avery Johnson
Johnson may be the most underrated player on this list but that could change as the second-year Wildcat will get his chance to show the college football world why he is a breakout candidate in 2024. Johnson has elite playmaking ability with his legs, rushing for 71 yards and a touchdown against NC State in the Pop-Tart Bowl last season.
Pairing that with a talented arm Johnson has everything you would want in a QB. Kansas State will be a team to watch in the Big 12 after the departure of Texas and Oklahoma to the SEC, and Johnson is a big reason why.
