While there was some debate over a few of the fouls assessed to Dallas Mavericks star Luka Doncic in Game 3 of the 2024 NBA Finals, ESPN insider/analyst Brian Windhorst offered a very different response.
Following the Boston Celtics' 106-99 victory, which gave them a 3-0 series lead over Doncic and the Mavericks, Windhorst unloaded on the 25-year-old star.
During a segment on "SportsCenter," Windhorst said Doncic was "in an unacceptable position to put himself in with four minutes [left] with five fouls" when he got tangled up with Jaylen Brown and ultimately fouled out.
"I thought it was perfect that Luka fell onto the ground there in an unacceptable position to put himself in with four minutes [left] with five fouls and then immediately looks at the bench and says you better bleeping challenge it, as if it's the bench's fault that he just made a terrible play," Windhorst said.
"I'm standing here in the Mavericks tunnel, over there [points] is the Celtics tunnel, that's where the winners are."If Luka’s ever gonna be a winner ... he’s gonna have to use what's happened in this Finals as a learning experience," Windhorst continued.

Windhorst continued by blasting Doncic's defense and his complaints about officiating, stating they have "begged him, they have talked with him, they have pleaded with him" to stop.
It was an eye-opening stretch of comments from Windhorst, and he's not wrong about how costly it was for Doncic to foul out of this game.
The Mavericks star scored 27 points with six rebounds and six assists before fouling out, and while Kyrie Irving scored 35 points and kept Dallas within striking distance, it simply wasn't enough.
The Mavericks now have to make history by becoming the first team to overcome a 3-0 deficit to win this series. But based on how well the Celtics have played through three games, that'll be a tall task for Doncic and the Mavericks.
