Insider shares bombshell about job security of Eagles' Nick Sirianni

Philadelphia Inquirer columnist Marcus Hayes dropped somewhat of a bombshell regarding Philadelphia Eagles head coach Nick Sirianni during a recent chat with Michael Grant of Awful Announcing.

"I think his seat could probably not be hotter," Hayes directly said about Sirianni.

Sirianni's job security became a talking point as the 2023 Eagles fell from 10-1 to 11-6 before they suffered a 32-9 wild-card playoff loss at the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. A willingness to part ways with both defensive coordinator Sean Desai and offensive coordinator Brian Johnson may have helped save Sirianni's job, but rumors about alleged off-the-field issues that hovered over the Eagles throughout the offseason likely did little to help his cause.

Hayes mentioned that Eagles owner Jeffrey Lurie "wasn’t happy" with how Sirianni taunted Kansas City Chiefs fans after a "Monday Night Football" win this past November, in part because Lurie "has a close relationship with" the Chiefs' owners and head coach Andy Reid. Philadelphia won just two more games following that incident.

"People forget there were a couple of times last season when Nick Sirianni had issues with players on the sidelines," Hayes continued. "And one of those issues was with (pass-rusher) Haason Reddick late in the year, and Haason Reddick isn’t here anymore."

The Eagles traded Reddick to the New York Jets. Reddick skipped the Jets' mandatory minicamp this week amid his reported desire for a new contract.

Sirianni guided the Eagles to Super Bowl LVII, where they lost to none other than the Chiefs in February 2023. Much has changed since that fateful evening, and it was reported this past January that there was "a belief in some league circles" at that time that both the Eagles and Dallas Cowboys "expressed interest in" former New England Patriots head coach Bill Belichick.

More recently, it was said in April that Belichick "is believed to be biding his time until next January for openings on teams he has told confidants he would be interested in coaching." Philadelphia is among those clubs, but it remains to be seen if the NFC East side will have an opening at head coach before conference championship Sunday arrives.
