Known as one of the premier players in the WNBA, New York Liberty star Breanna Stewart keeps moving up the leaderboards and history books as she has done so once again.
In the 99-93 defeat to the Phoenix Mercury, Stewart became just the fourth player in WNBA history to reach 400 3-pointers made and 350 blocks. Only Lauren Jackson, Tamika Catchings and Tina Thompson have been able to eclipse this major record.
When asked about the stat, the five-time All-Star was unaware that she was close to the milestone but is proud to contribute to her team.
“Sometimes I think there are so many stats that it is hard to keep track,” Stewart said. “Personally, it was good to see the ball go in tonight, continuing to make an impact on both ends of the floor and doing what I do.”

Blowing past the competition, Stewart was the fastest player to achieve such a feat, taking her 238 games. The next closest was Jackson at 283.
In her eighth season in the league, Stewart has been on a tear this year by averaging, 19.2 points, 9.2 rebounds and 3.6 assists in 15 games (all starts). She is sixth in WNBA scoring, seventh in rebounds and fourth in steals (2.1) per game.
The UConn product is enjoying her second season with the Liberty who are 12-3 on the season. Coming into Phoenix on Tuesday, New York was on an eight-game winning streak and was second in the league before the loss.
Throughout her career, the New York native has picked prestigious accolades along the way. Stewart was a part of the Seattle Storm dynasty which won two WNBA championships and she was named the Finals MVP in both 2018 and 2020, she is a two-time WNBA MVP, a five-time All-WNBA first-team honoree and more.
Even though the Liberty’s run is now over, they have superstars all over the roster to get back on track and be able to make a deep playoff run. Stewart, Sabrina Ionescu and Jonquel Jones have been a dangerous trio who can all take over a game when needed, something former Mercury head coach Sandy Brondello will need if her team will chase for this year’s title.
The early dominance of Stewart is a sign that she will soon break other records, a positive sign that she will do whatever it takes to help the Liberty succeed going forward.
