NFL futures: Betting on which teams score the fewest points this season

This week we looked at which NFL teams make the most sense to bet on leading the league in points, and as promised, we're now looking at the inverse of that. You can similarly bet which team will score the fewest, and it's one that has us leaning toward some of the shorter odds options.

The favorites

Odds courtesy of DraftKings.

  1. New England Patriots (+320)
  2. Denver Broncos (+400)
  3. Las Vegas Raiders (+700)
  4. Carolina Panthers (+800)
  5. Pittsburgh Steelers (+800)
  6. Tennessee Titans (+850)
  7. New York Giants (+1000)
  8. Cleveland Browns (+1600)
  9. Los Angeles Chargers (+2200)
  10. Washington Commanders (+2500)

Last season thanks to a struggling Bryce Young rookie year, it was Carolina that tied for the league-low in points, averaging just 13.9 per game. That mark was the same as New England, and while both sides did swap in new coaching staffs, each rightfully remain as among the favorites to bottom out the league in scoring output.

The Giants, Jets and Steelers rounded out the bottom five, with only Pittsburgh making the postseason.

Our bets

Denver Broncos +400

The Broncos to us are one of the messiest teams in the NFL this year. Sean Payton has inspired no confidence up to this point, and now Denver is either trotting out Jarrett Stidham or Bo Nix at quarterback. Both are just horrible options, and after trading away Jerry Jeudy, there's just not quite enough talent here to warrant a bullish outlook on the Broncos.

The offensive line needs work, and while Courtland Sutton is a cromulent WR1, he's far from ideal, and we have yet to be convinced Josh Reynolds is a true WR2. This year could be ugly in Denver.

New England Patriots +320

We have to go a bit chalky here in this market, as few offenses look worse on paper than what the Patriots are likely running out there this season.

We'll have either a rookie project in Drake Maye at QB, or a journeyman in Jacoby Brissett who is fine but not spectacular. The true concern comes in the passing game, as New England is leaning on Kendrick Bourne, DeMario Douglas and rookie Ja'Lynn Polk to lead the way. The Patriots are in a brutally tough division are seem likely to be in store for another top-five pick in next year's draft. We have to fade the team in its entirety by looking to this fewest points scored market.
