With less than a month until the new season opens, college football is drawing bettors to their favorite sportsbooks at an exceptional rate. So who exactly is everyone backing in 2024?
Here is a look at three of the most-bet-on teams ahead of the CFB season, with odds courtesy of BetMGM — and whether you should consider backing them yourself.

Suffice it to say, the Buckeyes are determined to be champions this year after having to sit back last January and watch their archrivals Michigan win college football's most-coveted prize. So, Ohio State had a busy offseason recruiting big-name players to bolter Ryan Day's roster and give them a chance at redemption.
The Buckeyes still don't have the shortest odds of winning a title — that's Georgia at +300 odds — but they have been dominating with bettors ever since the spring. In May, Ohio State was the most-wagered on team to win with a 60.5% betting handle. Yahoo! Sports then reported in June that the Buckeyes were still a hot commodity, raking in 25% of title bets and 35% of all college football bets.
Should you back this bet as well? The Buckeyes are expected to be better this season, plus they have a fairly easy schedule to kick off their 2024 campaign. That being said, this is the same team that lost 14-3 to Missouri in the Cotton Bowl last December.
Wager on this team at your own risk. They'll be good, but they have yet to prove they are worth the hype.
While the Buckeyes are heavily boosted to win a title, the Longhorns are widely expected to miss the mark.
Texas' move to the SEC has brought a lot of skeptics out of the woodwork, even with Quinn Ewers under center and one of the betting favorites to win the Heisman. So even when the over/under for wins moved from 10.5 games down to 10, A to Z Sports reports via BetMGM that the Longhorns are garnering more wagers to hit the Under.
Does that mean you should bet Texas to hit the Under as well? Not necessarily.
Just because Nick Saban says the Longhorns won't fare well in their first SEC season doesn't make it set in stone. This is the same Steve Sarkisian-led team that went 12-2 last season. Don't follow the pre-season flock and go all in on the Under here.
Yes, the Buffs ultimately disappointed in Deion Sanders's first season as head coach. And yes, the criticism surrounding them is alive and well.
Nevertheless, Colorado is the darling with oddsmakers yet again and garnering a surprising amount of handle. FOX Sports reported last week via BetMGM that 5.1% of bets are on the Buffs to win the CFP title, which is the fourth-most in the country behind Georgia, Ohio State and Texas.
But before you jump on this bandwagon, keep in mind: Bets on Colorado went through the roof last year when the team started off the season 3-0. Sanders' team then ended the season at a disappointing 4-8 with the playoff hopes long gone.
Behind all the glitz and allure that Coach Prime packs, this team is still a work in progress. Backing this heavily bet-on team packs more risk than it's potentially worth.
