Former Jets QB shares interesting Haason Reddick, Davante Adams idea

Former New York Jets quarterback and current NFL analyst Boomer Esiason continues to believe that the club could land star wide receiver Davante Adams from the Las Vegas Raiders via a trade this summer.

During Tuesday's edition of the WFAN "Boomer and Gio" program, Esiason suggested that Pro Bowl pass-rusher Haason Reddick officially asking the Jets for a trade amid his desire for a long-term contract extension could help Gang Green acquire Adams, assuming the Raiders would be interested in paying Reddick.

"He’ll never say it publicly, but are you gonna sit here and tell me that he’s happy playing in Vegas right now after what he was promised originally?" Esiason said about Adams' situation with the Raiders, as shared by Ryan Chichester of Audacy. "Do you think a Hall of Fame wide receiver …wants to play in Vegas under those circumstances, where he knows that they don’t have a chance in hell to get to the Super Bowl? And they have an out at the end of his contract after this year."

There's plenty to unpack here.

Adams played alongside Jets starting quarterback Aaron Rodgers when both were with the Green Bay Packers from 2014 up until Adams agreed to a five-year, $141.25M contract to join the Raiders via a trade from Green Bay in March 2022. Adams has yet to be part of a playoff team with the Raiders, and the club probably isn't close to completing a trip to a Super Bowl as 2023 fourth-round draft pick Aidan O'Connell and journeyman Gardner Minshew compete for the Vegas QB1 job.

Adams and his agents previously attempted to pour cold water over rumors linking the dynamic play-maker with the Jets, but some think the Raiders could make the 31-year-old available before the Nov. 5 trade deadline. 

As for Reddick, Jets general manager Joe Douglas insisted in a statement released on Monday that the 29-year-old won't be traded before Week 1. However, NFL insider Dianna Russini of The Athletic indicated on Tuesday that the Jets and Reddick aren't nearing any resolution regarding his holdout.

Rodgers clearly wants to link back up with an old friend, while Reddick seemingly cares more about getting paid than about pursuing a Super Bowl ring between now and February 2025. None of that means the Raiders would give Reddick a massive extension, but the clubs may have something new to talk about if Esiason has been right all along about Adams' desires.
