Chiefs get bad news regarding the injury status of top WR

The Kansas City Chiefs might have to make do without Marquise “Hollywood” Brown for the first few weeks of the regular season after it was announced the wideout will miss four to six weeks, per NFL insider Jordan Schultz, due to the sternoclavicular injury he suffered in the team’s preseason opener against the Jacksonville Jaguars.

Brown was hurt on his only catch — an 11-yard reception on the Chiefs’ first play of the game — which resulted in him coming down awkwardly with the ball, which led to the injury.

Kansas City has two more preseason games left before kicking off the regular season on Sept. 5 against the Baltimore Ravens at home. As things stand right now, Brown is expected to miss that game.

The best-case scenario for the Chiefs is that’s the only game Brown misses. If he’s out the full six weeks, they’ll also be without him against the Cincinnati Bengals in Week 2 and Atlanta Falcons in Week 3.

The 27-year-old Brown signed a one-year, $7 million contract with the Chiefs back in March. He’s coming off a 51-catch, 574-yard, four-touchdown season with the Arizona Cardinals.

In Brown’s absence, KC is expected to lean heavily on rookie first-round pick Xavier Worthy to fill his spot.

The Chiefs also have a hodgepodge of journeymen WRs like Mecole Hardman, Kadarius Toney and Justin Watson, as well as a few talented youngsters like Skyy Moore, Justyn Ross and Rashee Rice. However, the latter could be facing a multi-game suspension to start the year.
