Although the Dallas Cowboys signed quarterback Dak Prescott and wide receiver CeeDee Lamb to extensions this offseason, edge-rusher Micah Parsons is waiting to cash in.
It's easy to argue Parsons — who has two years remaining on his rookie deal — deserves a new contract after earning two first-team All-Pro nods in his first three seasons. But he wants to prove his worth.
"For me, I just want to prove that I'm the best player, and I can do it consistently at an all-time high," Parsons said Tuesday on "GMFB: Overtime," via NFL.com's Jeremy Bergman. "I think I've been doing that pretty much, but I really want to prove my value. I want to get [owner] Jerry Jones a couple wins. I kinda just want to maximize my value so that they see why they got to keep this guy. This guy is great in the locker room, and he wants to be a part of this team, and he cares about winning."
Parsons may also want to surpass San Francisco 49ers edge-rusher Nick Bosa ($34M per year) as the highest-paid defensive player in the league.
Spotrac estimates Parsons' market value is a three-year deal worth $30.6M annually. He could be in line for an even bigger contract if he has another productive season.
Parsons looked sharp in his first game under new defensive coordinator Mike Zimmer on Sunday. During a 33-17 victory over the Cleveland Browns, he posted a solid 75.8 Pro Football Focus grade and logged 11 total pressures.

On 69 snaps against Cleveland, the 25-year-old mainly lined up on the edge (52 snaps). He indicated Zimmer will let him move around more over the course of the season, which should increase his impact.
Parsons is clearly motivated to earn his paycheck this season, which should help the Cowboys (1-0) vie for their second consecutive NFC East title.
