Kyle Larson will have second chance to run Indy-Charlotte 'Double' in 2025

After a single storm system derailed Kyle Larson’s bid to run the Indianapolis 500 and Coca-Cola 600 on the same day, the NASCAR champion will take another crack at the ‘Double’ in 2025.

On Tuesday, Hendrick Motorsports and Arrow McLaren officially announced Larson’s 2025 Indy run, giving the star driver a new opportunity to make racing history.

A delayed start to the Indianapolis 500 jeopardized Larson’s status for the evening’s Coca-Cola 600 at Charlotte. When Larson chose to stay in Indianapolis, he guaranteed that he would miss the green flag in Charlotte.

After finishing 18th in his IndyCar debut, Larson flew to Charlotte as quickly as possible — only to discover that the same storm system that delayed Indianapolis had migrated east, delaying the Coca-Cola 600 just past the race’s halfway point.

As the track began to dry in Charlotte, NASCAR inexplicably called the race official, just minutes after Larson had changed firesuits and began to make his way to his No. 5 car.

It was a major disappointment for Larson, who didn’t even have the chance to turn a lap in one of NASCAR’s most prestigious races.

Good weather can’t be guaranteed in Indianapolis or Charlotte eight months from now, but if Mother Nature plays along, race fans will have a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to see one of the best drivers in the world attempt a Herculean feat.

The names that have completed the Indy-Charlotte ‘Double’ read like a list of Hall of Famers, but if Larson were to do the impossible and win both races, he’d be the first driver to do so.

That’s a tall task for any driver, but with a year of Indy 500 experience under his belt and the best all-around team In NASCAR beside him, the sky's the limit for Larson’s second ‘Double’ Attempt.

The historic races will be held on May 25, 2025, with the Indianapolis 500 on tap first. The Coca-Cola 600 will close the evening, capping what motorsports fans call the ‘Greatest Day in Racing.’
