The San Francisco 49ers largely dominated the New York Jets on Monday night en route to earning an impressive season-opening 32-19 win.
Star 49ers pass-rusher Nick Bosa spoke with reporters on Wednesday and seemingly threw some shade at the Jets while discussing San Francisco's Week 2 game at the 1-0 Minnesota Vikings this coming Sunday.
"This week, I think we're playing a better, honestly, a better team," Bosa somewhat controversially said, as shared by Joe Nelson of Sports Illustrated. "They're playing better football, it looks like. They run the ball well. We're going to have to be better in our techniques. We kind of got away with some things last week. We have to hone in and not pat ourselves on the back."
While the Jets featured a version of Aaron Rodgers at quarterback who looked a bit rusty coming off the torn Achilles he suffered four offensive snaps into New York's 2023 season opener, Minnesota's Sam Darnold completed 13 of his first 14 passes for 151 yards and a touchdown to help the Vikings notch what proved to be a relatively easy 28-6 Week 1 win at the New York Giants.
49ers players such as Bosa know all about Darnold's physical attributes, as the third overall pick of the 2018 draft spent the bulk of last season serving as San Francisco's primary backup quarterback behind starter Brock Purdy. According to ESPN stats, Darnold begins Week 2 of the ongoing campaign ranked eighth in the NFL among qualified players with an 81.0 adjusted QBR and fifth with a 113.2 passer rating.
"I know how his arm strength is and how he's a good processor of information and can get the ball out," Bosa added about Darnold. "It'll be the same formula, try to make him one-dimensional and then go from there."
As of early Thursday afternoon, DraftKings Sportsbook listed the 49ers as five-point road favorites against the Vikings. Bosa left little doubt he and others inside the San Francisco locker room won't be taking Minnesota lightly, but the 26-year-old may also have given the Jets some needed bulletin-board material heading into Gang Green's Week 2 showdown at the 0-1 Tennessee Titans this Sunday.
