Steelers QB Justin Fields joins elite company amid 3-0 start

Quarterback Justin Fields has the Steelers 3-0 to start the season, and while the defense has been playing lights out, he deserves some credit, too.

According to Pro Football Focus, Fields is one of just two quarterbacks, along with the New York Jets' Aaron Rodgers, who do not have a turnover-worthy play (min. 50 attempts) three weeks into the season.

It's quite the elite company Fields finds himself in next to the four-time NFL MVP and 10-time Pro Bowler Rodgers.

It's also quite the career turnaround for Fields, who was once criticized for not seeing the field correctly during his three-year stint with the Chicago Bears.

He now believes it's one of the stronger parts of his game.

"Just overall seeing the field," Fields said when asked where he's grown the most. "I feel like I'm just very calm out there, cool, calm and collected on the field, and really just that sense of peace out there on the field and not really rushing things."

Fields has a right to feel that way as he is coming off maybe his best showing yet in Week 3 when he completed 25 of 32 passes for 245 yards and a touchdown. He also had a five-yard rushing score.

The 25-year-old did throw his first interception since joining Pittsburgh on Sunday, but it came off a tipped ball and was Fields' first in 115 pass attempts and 80 completions, marks which ranked eighth and tied for sixth, respectively, among active QBs.

If Fields continues to play clean football, the Steelers will have to stick with him as their starter, even when quarterback Russell Wilson, who's been nursing his calf injury, is healthy.

Pittsburgh has stood behind the idea that Wilson is its starting quarterback since signing him in March. In fact, he is still listed as the QB1 on the depth chart.

However, the Steelers would be smart to keep Fields on the field against the Indianapolis Colts in Week 4. He seems to believe that will be the case.

"At the end of the day, it's not just me winning games. It's the whole team," Fields added. "...We definitely look forward to keeping it going next week versus Indy."
