Cowboys reach another low before Week 15 matchup with Panthers

When it seems the Dallas Cowboys' season can't become even more pathetic, it does.

As of Tuesday, ESPN BET lists the Carolina Panthers as a 2.5-point favorite in their home matchup against the Cowboys on Sunday.

If Vegas doesn't change the spread, the Panthers will be favored in a game for the first time since Dec. 18, 2022, when they were a three-point favorite against the Pittsburgh Steelers (via ESPN's David Newton). The Steelers upset the Panthers 24-16 in that matchup.

Panthers second-year quarterback Bryce Young has improved after Carolina benched him in favor of Andy Dalton earlier this season. Over his past five games, the 2023 No. 1 overall pick has completed 58.8 percent of his passes for five touchdowns and has tossed two interceptions.

Despite Young's progress, Carolina (3-10) is last in the NFC South and will likely miss the playoffs for a seventh straight season.

If the Panthers are one of the worst organizations in the league, what does that make the Cowboys? A potential shipwreck.

Dallas fell to 5-8 after an embarrassing 27-20 loss to the Cincinnati Bengals on "Monday Night Football" in Week 14.

With 1:01 left in the game, Bengals QB Joe Burrow threw a 40-yard touchdown to wide receiver Ja'Marr Chase after Dallas bungled a blocked punt. Cowboys cornerback Amani Oruwariye tried to recover it, but he fumbled, giving the Bengals the ball.

Along with finding baffling ways to lose games, the Cowboys are injury-riddled. Dallas starting quarterback Dak Prescott (hamstring) and guard Zack Martin (ankle) are on injured reserve. On Tuesday, Cowboys owner Jerry Jones told KRLD-FM in Dallas that linebacker DeMarvion Overshown will need surgery on his right knee.

Unsurprisingly, the Cowboys have offensive and defensive holes. They rank 21st in the league in points scored (20.6) and second to last in points allowed (28.2).

The Cowboys being underdogs against the lowly Panthers further illustrates how far they've plummeted this season.
