Rising star's injury worsens Cowboys' woes

The Dallas Cowboys lost one of their only bright spots in a loss to the Cincinnati Bengals on "Monday Night Football."

Dallas second-year linebacker DeMarvion Overshown injured his right knee in the fourth quarter of the 27-20 loss. On Tuesday, Cowboys owner Jerry Jones told KRLD-FM in Dallas that Overshown needs surgery.

It's another tough blow for the 24-year-old LB, who tore his ACL in the preseason in 2023. Jones didn't say whether Overshown will return in 2025.

"I don't know at this date the time-date on the rehab," Jones said. "I just can't tell you how bad I feel for him because he's just been through that mental and physical rehab on his other knee. To turn around and have to go through that again is calling in many ways."

Through his first 13 games, Overshown — a former third-round pick — led the team in tackles for loss (eight) and ranked second in sacks (five). ESPN's Todd Archer recently claimed the Texas product deserved to make his first Pro Bowl.

"He can rush the passer. He can cover. He is a good tackler," Archer wrote of Overshown. "Once he sees the play, he has the speed to go. And if he guesses incorrectly, he has the speed to make up for the error. The more experience he gains, the better he should become."

Teammates also seem to love Overshown. Cowboys LB Micah Parsons fought tears while discussing his injury.

"I cried," Parsons told the media. "It's like my little bro, bro. He doesn't deserve that, either. He really don't. Just to understand what's he gonna have to go through and to be there for him mentally, physically is just so challenging because he's so talented. ... I just don't think it's fair."

Along with Overshown, starting quarterback Dak Prescott (hamstring) and guard Zack Martin (ankle) have suffered season-ending injuries. The Cowboys (5-8) should keep nosediving without their stars.
