Insider offers huge update on what Steelers think of Aaron Rodgers

The Pittsburgh Steelers currently don't have a legitimate 2025 Week 1 starting quarterback under contract for next season and had been linked with current New York Jets signal-caller Aaron Rodgers.

During a Thursday appearance on "The Rich Eisen Show," Steelers insider Gerry Dulac of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette addressed whether or not the club views Rodgers as a short-term replacement for veteran Russell Wilson.

"I can tell you it won't be Aaron Rodgers," Dulac said, as shared by Joe Clark of Steelers Depot. "They have no interest in doing that."

Eyebrows were raised when current Jets wide receiver Davante Adams admitted earlier this week that he "one hundred percent" would love to play for Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin. Adams and Rodgers were first teammates with the Green Bay Packers from 2014-21, and Adams essentially orchestrated an in-season move from the Las Vegas Raiders to the Jets this past fall so he could reunite with Rodgers.

With that said, it's unclear if a to-be-hired Jets general manager and new head coach will ask Rodgers to return for another season. It's also possible Rodgers could retire.

"I told them I’m going to take some time," Rodgers said during a Thursday appearance on "The Pat McAfee Show" about offseason conversations he's thus far had with the Jets, per Brian Jones of On3. "They haven’t made a decision on a GM or a coach yet. Once that happens, that will take us to the next step which is a conversation I’m assuming with whoever that individual is. But this is a time where I’m taking time for my body and my mind to clear things."

As for the Steelers' quarterback plans, NFL Media's Mike Garafolo recently mentioned that Wilson could re-sign with Pittsburgh but be asked to compete for the starting job for a second consecutive summer. While Wilson lost his final five starts of the 2024 season through this past Saturday's wild-card playoff game against the Baltimore Ravens, he reportedly "still has a lot of support from Tomlin."

Meanwhile, Tomlin seemingly isn't going anywhere this offseason despite rumors suggesting a club such as the Dallas Cowboys could try to trade for his services.
