No. 3 Notre Dame women dominate on the boards, beat No. 17 Georgia Tech without star

The third-ranked Notre Dame Fighting Irish took care of business against No. 17 Georgia Tech, 81-66, on Thursday night without their star player.

Sophomore guard Hannah Hidalgo, the team's leader in points (25.7) and steals (4.1), did not play for a second straight game due to a right ankle sprain she suffered against Wake Forest on Jan. 9.

Despite the absence of their star, Notre Dame never trailed on Thursday night. The Fighting Irish had 50 rebounds to Georgia Tech's 25 and put up 46 points in the paint. Twelve of the team's rebounds came from senior forward Liatu King, while sophomore guard Cassandre Prosper had nine off the bench.

Senior guard Sonia Citron led the way with 21 points (9-for-13 FG), six rebounds, six assists and three steals. Senior Olivia Miles, who had 13 points, hit this long-range jumper to extend Notre Dame's lead to 68-50 with 7:32 left in the game.

That was one of six threes the Fighting Irish made in 13 attempts (46.2%). Notre Dame was averaging 87.8 PPG and shooting 49.4% on the season coming into Thursday night, but most of that production had come from Hidalgo, which makes its victory that much more impressive.

Georgia Tech (15-3, 3-3 ACC) has now lost three in a row after a 15-0 start. After shooting just 37.7%, the Yellow Jackets must find more production if they are going to get back in the win column. Their next chance is against Clemson on Sunday.

Notre Dame (15-2, 6-0 ACC) has won its last 10 after back-to-back early season losses. If the Fighting Irish continue to have their way on the glass and maintain their efficiency from the floor, they are going to be tough to slow down, especially when they are at full strength. A home game against SMU is up next on Sunday.
