After a four-game losing streak, the Arkansas Razorbacks (9-14, 2-6 SEC) got off the schneid with a 72-51 win over Texas A&M (10-10, 3-5 SEC) inside Bud Walton Arena.
Arkansas guard Izzy Higginbottom scored 33 points and nearly secured a triple double with 10 rebounds and seven assists. Higginbottom entered Thursday's game as the leading scorer in the SEC.
Arkansas' lone SEC win going into Thursday's contest was a 59-58 triumph over Auburn on Jan. 9. After a stretch where Arkansas lost four games by an average of 30.75 points, the Hogs' inspired performance is a good sign, especially with a winnable stretch of games coming up.
Arkansas hosts Florida (11-11, 2-6) on Monday before traveling to Mississippi State (16-6, 3-5 SEC) on Feb. 6. The Razorbacks will then travel to Georgia (9-13, 1-7 SEC) on Feb. 9.
The Razorbacks will likely need to win the SEC Tournament in order to make the NCAA Tournament, but stacking wins would do wonders for their path to an SEC title. Every win could mean knocking a day off the Razorbacks' SEC Tournament schedule, giving Arkansas more rest during the most important week of the season.
If the Razorbacks can find a way to beat Florida inside Bud Walton on Monday, it could signal a surge of late-season momentum that could spur a special run in the SEC Tournament.
