Giants' Malik Nabers opens up about Cam Ward, Shedeur Sanders

New York Giants wide receiver Jalin Hyatt spoke carefully about the club's quarterback situation while on Radio Row at the Super Bowl and insisted he simply wants the team's new QB1 "to be a leader."

During a Wednesday appearance on SiriusXM NFL Radio, fellow Giants receiver Malik Nabers wasn't quite so shy when asked about his employer possibly grabbing either Miami's Cam Ward or Colorado's Shedeur Sanders via the third overall pick of the 2025 draft.

"He’s comfortable when he’s back there," Nabers said about Ward, as shared by Tom Rock of Newsday. "He throws the ball in spots you’re not really supposed to throw the ball but he has crazy arm talent. He’s mobile. I’ve seen him come back in some games [where] I’m like, 'Nah, this game’s over with,' and he’s just dottin’. He’s very efficient."

Nabers added that he feels Ward is "a leader that wants to bring people along to win." That comment may be music to Hyatt's ears, and ESPN's Matt Miller is among those who believe ahead of Super Bowl LIX that the Giants would grab Ward if both signal-callers fell to pick No. 3.

Meanwhile, Sanders has openly flirted with the Giants since at least late 2024 and made it known in December he's a big Nabers fan.

"I’ve been watching him a long time," Nabers said about Sanders. "He's another crazy arm talent. He gives his guys the opportunity to go make plays. He’s not scared and he wants to win, and he’s a leader. From what I’ve heard in that locker room, he’s a great leader."

Giants/NFL insider Connor Hughes of SNY reported in January that "the talk around league circles" at the time was that Giants head coach Brian Daboll and general manager Joe Schoen had Sanders' name written in pencil atop the club's overall draft board. Long before New York has to make that draft selection, the club will sign a bridge option at the position, such as Kirk Cousins of the Atlanta Falcons.

Unsurprisingly, NFL insider Adam Schefter of ESPN reported on Wednesday that the Falcons are expected to release Cousins "around the time that the new league year begins on March 12." Cousins lost the Atlanta starting job to 2024 first-round draft pick Michael Penix Jr. in December.
