Jon Batiste performs National Anthem ahead of Super Bowl LIX between Chiefs and Eagles

It’s a special moment for the 38-year-old Batiste, who grew up in nearby Kenner, Louisiana. Jazz runs deep in the bayou, and Batiste made sure to bring that flare with him on the biggest stage in American sports.

“It’s always a good thing to represent the best of who we are and it’s important to have songs and symbols that represent that but when you get to a point where there’s conflict in that regard, it’s an interesting place for an artist to stand,” Batiste told Page Six last month.

“And for it to be in New Orleans… again, I love things that are fraught with. So, I’m excited about it.”

Batiste’s stardom only continues to grow. He won Album of the Year for “We Are” at the 2021 Grammy Awards and took home Best Music Film for “American Symphony” and Best Song Written for Visual Media with “It Never Went Away” at this year’s Grammys earlier this month.

With the pregame festivities out of the way, Super Bowl LIX can now commence. The Chiefs are chasing an unprecedented three-peat, while the Eagles are looking to make up for their Super Bowl defeat to Kansas City from two years ago.

At the halfway mark, it’ll be the Kendrick Lamar show. The 22-time Grammy Award-winning rapper will take the stage alongside SZA in what should be an entertaining Super Bowl Halftime Show for those in attendance and watching at home.
