The Phoenix Suns are 11th in the Western Conference. An offseason coaching change, which saw Frank Vogel lose his job and Mike Budenholzer step into the role, has failed to pay dividends.
Even the addition of Tyus Jones, who was supposed to plug the biggest hole on the roster, has not generated any additional success.
Instead, the Suns remain an expensively constructed team of individuals. Kevin Durant, Bradley Beal and Devin Booker are all elite talents. However, the experiment of pairing the trio together has failed. Right now, there doesn't appear to be a clear-cut answer on how to get the best out of this Suns team.
During a recent appearance on FanDuel TV's 'Run It Back,' DeMarcus Cousins took aim at Phoenix's lack of on-court chemistry, questioning whether the Suns should look to enter a rebuild.
"I thinking about it from a business standpoint and ownership standpoint," Cousins said. "If we go into a rebuild, let's go into a full rebuild ... The Suns would get plenty of assets back for Devin Booker. Obviously Kevin Durant would be on the move, they can get assets for him as well. The hardest guy to trade would be Bradley Beal."

Phoenix is two games behind the Sacramento Kings, who hold the final play-in tournament spot as the 10th seed. If the Suns can crash the play-in and navigate themselves into the playoffs, the front office could be tricked into another year with the current core.
However, any success this roster has between now and the summer would be fool's gold. A 'Big Three' rarely works in the NBA nowadays, so the Suns need to recoup some assets and begin pivoting toward a more sustainable model that will prepare them for the future. Whether that future includes Booker will remain a question for the front office.
Owner Mat Ishbia came into the league with grand ideas, and he backed them up with some big moves. Unfortunately, he's learned a tough lesson that NBA success can rarely be bought.
Durant deserves another run at a title before his career ends. He's unlikely to sit around and continue losing when the clock is running out, though.
Phoenix has enough talent to command significant returns on the trade market. This summer would be the ideal time to start making those moves, otherwise, contracts begin to run down, and trade values start to plummet.
Suns fans might not like it, but things are going to get worse before they get better.
