Sunday women's NCAA Tournament winners, losers: Bad day for Big 10

Day three of the women's NCAA Tournament has all but wrapped up and for the third straight day, there was not much excitement.

There were a few goods and a few bads and to recap that, here are three winners and three losers from Sunday's action.

Winners

No. 5 seeds

There were three No. 4 vs. No. 5 seed games on Sunday and the five seeds came away victorious in all three games.

Ole Miss, Kansas State and Tennessee came away with the three wins for the No. 5 seeds. No. 4 Maryland vs. No. 5 Alabama is the only remaining matchup between the four and five seeds.

Hailey Van Lith

After she didn't get the chance last season, Van Lith was able to end the season of the Louisville Cardinals, her former team.

Van Lith and the TCU Horned Frogs were able to beat Louisville, 85-70, to advance to the Sweet 16 for the first time in program history.

Jayda Curry

Despite Louisville's loss to No. 2-seeded TCU, Curry was the star of the day, scoring 41 points and knocking down six threes. In what was potentially her last game as a college basketball player, she scored her career high and fought until the very end.

Losers

No. 4 seeds

If the No. 5 seeds were winners, then the No. 4 seeds would certainly have to be considered losers.

Kentucky, Ohio State and Baylor all lost games at home to end its seasons. Maryland will have a chance on Monday to be the only No. 4 seed to win a game in the Round of 32.

Big 10 Conference

Michigan, Indiana, Ohio State and Oregon were four of the five teams from the Big 10 that were represented in action on Sunday.

Those four teams went 0-4 and lost by a combined 53 points. The only Big 10 team with a win on Sunday is No. 1-overall seed UCLA.

Sydney Parrish

The Indiana Hoosiers guard gave the South Carolina Gamecocks a bit of bulletin board material. Parrish had a lot to say when speaking on the matchup with South Carolina.

“Without a six-seven kid in there with Kamilla Cardoso (gone) and Ashlyn Watkins being injured at the beginning of this year, that definitely helps us,” Parrish said. “We are not as tall as they are. I think that we have the strength of maybe trying to play a little bit smarter than them and knowing when to pick and choose, when to double, when to help off certain people, when to push the ball, and try to play fast and when to try and tempo it down a little bit."

The Hoosiers did not, however, play smarter than South Carolina and their season ended with a 64-53 loss to South Carolina.
