It was previously believed that Colorado head coach Deion Sanders could tell at least one team ahead of the 2025 NFL Draft that his son, quarterback Shedeur Sanders, doesn't want to be selected by them.
During a recent interview on "The Skip Bayless Show," Deion poured cold water over such takes.
"Shedeur has told me, he's talked to me intently about all the visits he's had with all the teams, so I know where his heart is, I know where he wants to go," Deion said, as shared by ESPN. "If it's New York, it's New York, if it's Tennessee, if it's Cleveland, if it's still the Raiders, if it's New Orleans, if it's any of those teams that are seeking a quarterback, I'm happy with it, man. Because I know what he's going to do to the organization."
Deion interestingly offered these comments after numerous reports suggested that it's no longer a sure thing that Shedeur will be drafted by either the Cleveland Browns at pick No. 2 or by the New York Giants at pick No. 3. Shedeur allegedly "hit the wrong notes in combine interviews" with some teams.
New York Jets (pick No. 7) reporter Zack Rosenblatt of The Athletic mentioned as recently as Thursday that Shedeur's "projections seem to range as far as him going in the top 3 to falling all the way to the end of the first round — or maybe even out of it."
"[Ole Miss' Jaxson Dart] is considered the consensus QB3 in this class — some even view him as a better prospect than Shedeur Sanders," Rosenblatt added.
Many insiders believe the Tennessee Titans will hold onto the draft's first pick to take Miami's Cam Ward, the consensus top quarterback in this year's class.
The Browns reportedly could target either Colorado wide receiver/cornerback Travis Hunter or Penn State pass-rusher Abdul Carter at No. 2. Some think the Giants may pass on Sanders because they now have veterans Russell Wilson and Jameis Winston on their roster. The Las Vegas Raiders (pick No. 6) could reportedly sign Geno Smith to an extension soon. The Jets and New Orleans Saints (No. 9) have starters for at least the 2025 season, while the Indianapolis Colts aren't expected to take a quarterback at choice No. 14.
"I want Shedeur to do what he's consistently done — excel against all odds," Deion added during the interview. "I like the hating, I like the naysaying, I like the ignorance because it makes us feel better about what we do, and it gives him another chip on his shoulder."
Deion may believe Shedeur could have "another chip on his shoulder" due to sliding down the draft order further than some anticipated at the start of March.
