Miami Marlins starting pitcher Max Meyer turned in one of the best performances of his career on Monday, as he went six innings, allowed only five hits and struck out a career-high 14 batters.

Before Monday's outing, Meyer's career high for strikeouts in a game was only seven. He carved through the Reds' lineup, particularly the top of the order. Cincinnati's 1-5 hitters accounted for three of the five hits off Meyer, but also accounted for 11 of his 14 strikeouts.
He struck out both Elly De La Cruz and Gavin Lux three times each. Matt McLain, Austin Hays and Jose Trevino all struck out two times each.
The only two players in the Cincinnati lineup not to fall victim to the strikeouts were Spencer Steer and Noelvi Marte.

An interesting fact from Meyer's start is that it was the major league debut for his catcher, Agustín Ramírez. Along with catching the gem from Meyer, Ramírez collected his first two hits in the big leagues.
