Despite a disappointing result in Saturday's NASCAR Xfinity Series race at Talladega Superspeedway, Katherine Legge has a reason to be optimistic.
In her second Xfinity Series start of the 2025 season, the 44-year-old from Guildford, England, drove one of the best races of her NASCAR career. After a rough NASCAR Cup Series debut at Phoenix and a crash in her first Xfinity Series race of the season at Rockingham, Legge stayed out of trouble for most of Saturday's race.
It was a refreshing run for Legge, who laid back in Stages 1 and 2 before turning up the wick in Stage 3. Legge drove her No. 32 Chevrolet into the top 15 late in the race, but trouble found her on Lap 101.
As the field roared down the backstretch, veteran driver Aric Almirola attempted to fill a gap at the top of the racetrack. After being told he was clear by his spotter, Almirola tried to slide up in front of Legge, only to find that he was far from clear. Almirola, Legge, Jeffrey Earnhardt and Brandon Jones were all involved in the crash.

Legge ultimately finished 34th, but it was an all-round solid effort from a driver still getting used to driving stock cars on a more frequent basis.
"Honestly, I was having so much fun," Legge told reporters after being released from the infield care center. "The car was awesome. I was kind of hanging out for the first two-thirds of the race, and then we got a little bit more racey and I could run up there pretty easy. I thought we were going to have a great day. Can't catch a break."
Katherine Legge on a better day but still a race that ended with a wreck. As far as being the fourth woman to lead a lap in the Xfinity Series, she didn't even know she led a lap during pit-stop cycle. Legge: "That doesn't count. I can't claim that. That's not right." pic.twitter.com/aRFak9FX5Z

During a green-flag pit cycle, Legge became just the fourth female in the history of the NASCAR Xfinity Series to lead a lap in an Xfinity Series race. But, in the spirit of a true competitor, Legge says her leading the lap under the circumstances of a pit cycle is dubious.
"That doesn't count," Legge laughed. "I can't claim that, that's not right. We'll just say I had a really good day."
Despite the wreck, Legge should be able to hold her head high. She ran a quiet, clean race, and when the pay window opened, she was in position to score a solid finish before the inherently chaotic nature of Talladega took her out.
Legge will compete in the next Xfinity Series race on May 3 on Texas Motor Speedway in the No. 32 Chevrolet for Jordan Anderson Racing, and will make her next Cup Series start at Autodromo Hermanos Rodriguez in Mexico City on May 15 for Live Fast Motorsports.
