Tyrese Haliburton’s father is getting the boot.
Haliburton’s dad John will not attend Indiana Pacers playoff games for the rest of the season, regardless of whether the games are home or away, according to ESPN's Shams Charania. The decision was made after Haliburton had conversations with the Pacers front office following an incident on Tuesday.
The Pacers eliminated the Milwaukee Bucks from the playoffs with a 119-118 win in overtime in Game 5 of their Eastern Conference first-round playoff series. Tyrese had the winning layup for Indiana, which led John to get excited. John came onto the court after the game and taunted Bucks star Giannis Antetokounmpo, who took issue with the behavior. Antetokounmpo even put his head on John’s head and told him not to be disrespectful.
John Haliburton issued an apology via social media on Wednesday.
“I sincerely apologize to Giannis, the Milwaukee Bucks and the Pacers organization for my actions following tonight’s game. This was not a good reflection on our sport or my son and I will not make that mistake again,” John Haliburton wrote.
Tyrese Haliburton even admonished his father after Game 5 and said he felt his father was out of line. John Haliburton seems to be handling the fallout from the situation maturely. There is another NBA dad who probably should take some notes.
