Tylor Megill delivered a much-needed performance for both himself and the New York Mets on Wednesday against the Boston Red Sox, striking out 10 batters to help New York snap its three-game losing streak.
After a rough start to May — giving up 12 runs over 12.1 innings, issuing 10 walks and recording just 17 strikeouts — Megill rebounded in dominant fashion, recording 10 strikeouts in just 4.2 innings. He tied his career high in strikeouts while allowing only one walk, marking the first time he had struck out 10 batters while walking just one since 2021.

Megill aggressively attacked the strike zone, delivering 64.7% of his pitches for strikes (55 of 85). His four-seam fastball proved most effective, generating seven strikeouts, while his sinker accounted for the other three. Six of his strikeouts came on swinging third strikes, while four were caught looking. Two of them required just three pitches — one ending on a swing, the other on a called strike.
Despite being pulled before qualifying for the win, Megill's approach in the strike zone highlighted a clear adjustment from his earlier struggles with walks in May.
His start will likely keep his spot in the rotation, despite lingering questions about his role.
