Bryce Harper ignites Phillies offense as J.T. Realmuto just misses cycle

The Philadelphia Phillies continued their dominance over the lowly Colorado Rockies by slugging their way to a 9-5 win on Wednesday. Bryce Harper hit one of three Philadelphia home runs as the Phillies won their third straight over Colorado and their sixth straight win overall.

With the game tied 2-2 in the third, Trea Turner and Harper smashed back-to-back homers as part of a big four-run inning.

First, Turner, not exactly known for the long ball, hit his third home run of the season 424 feet to left field. Turner's solo shot broke the tie and put the Phillies back on top 3-2.

Not to be outdone, Harper then added one more run with a bomb to straightaway center field. Harper's traveled 437 feet and was his eighth on the year, granted his first since May 10.

Catcher J. T. Realmuto doubled the lead by spraying a ball far enough in the outfield. He would also blast some insurance runs on the board with a homer of his own in the top of the sixth inning.

And in a game the Phillies scored nine runs off 12 hits, Realmuto was the player of the game, finishing a triple away from the cycle and going 3-for-5 with two extra-base hits and three total RBI.

Wednesday became Realmuto's second three-RBI game of the season — he also drove in three earlier in the month against Arizona.

Ironically enough, Kyle Schwarber did not join the homer party and remains stuck tied with Shohei Ohtani for the MLB lead with 17. He was 0-for-3 on the night, but he was walked twice and scored both times.

The 31-18 Phillies now turn their attention to trying to complete a road four-game series in Colorado on Thursday afternoon. First pitch from Coors Field is set for 3:10 p.m. ET.
