Packers WR: 'A lot of people misinterpreted' infamous ESPN report

The Green Bay Packers shocked the NFL world when they took Matthew Golden with the No. 23 pick in the draft. It was the first time the Packers took a receiver in the first round since they selected Javon Walker in 2002.

Wide receiver was an area of need for Green Bay, especially with Christian Watson recovering from a knee injury he suffered in Week 18.

Jayden Reed was the Packers’ leading receiver in 2024, catching 55 passes for 857 yards and six touchdowns. Per ESPN’s Adam Schefter, Reed’s new agent, Drew Rosenhaus, met with the Packers brass after the draft to make sure his client would remain the No. 1 receiver in Green Bay.

“Packers GM Brian Gutekunst met last week with Jayden Reed’s agent Drew Rosenhaus to clarify the wide receiver’s status in Green Bay after the team drafted Matthew Golden and Savion Williams,” Schefter posted on X. “The team said it will not affect Reed’s status as its top receiver, per source.”

Jayden Reed: People misinterpreted the report

When speaking to the media after Wednesday’s practice at OTAs, Reed addressed Schefter’s report. He believes people “misinterpreted” the report and voiced his frustration about the story being leaked.

“A lot of people misinterpreted that,” Reed said, via Matt Schneidman of The Athletic.  “Like I hired a new agent, and we talked about it before even the draft, really, that, (Rosenhaus) was gonna talk to the front office and everybody here, to catch up and make sure everybody on the same page. And as a new client, he told me that it’s the way he was going to do, and he did it.

“Now I don’t know how it got out, because it was supposed to be confidential. But that’s how it go sometimes. People get a different perception, and they make their own perception, which is OK.”

Reed was the Packers’ second-round pick in the 2023 draft. He’s under contract with Green Bay through 2026. But his name could be one to watch in trade rumors if he isn’t receiving the number of targets he and Rosenhaus want in order for him to be paid after his rookie deal is done.
