Rockies give encouraging news on Chase Dollander's injury status

In a season that has been anything but positive for the Colorado Rockies, there was at least a glimmer of good news on Monday before starting a three-game series in South Florida against the Miami Marlins.

Rockies interim manager Warren Schaeffer confirmed to media members on Monday that starting pitcher Chase Dollander would be coming off the injured list to start Tuesday night's game against the Marlins. The 23-year-old right-hander went on the injured list on May 22 (retroactive to May 19) with right forearm tightness, but the Rockies were quick to say that the move was merely precautionary and Dollander was expected to return when his time on the injured list was over.

That time is Tuesday, the day Dollander is eligible to come off the injured list. He is slated to make his ninth start of the season after posting a 6.28 ERA through his first eight outings, totaling 38.2 innings.

"Just taking care of a young player in terms of a little full-on tightness," Schaeffer said on Monday of Colorado's decision to put him on the injured list. "I think the rest did him good. He feels good and he's ready to roll in the moment."

Dollander, the ninth overall pick in the 2023 MLB draft, has allowed just four hits and three runs while striking out 13 in his last 10.2 innings of work. His return is expected to be a boost for a Rockies team that entered Monday just 9-50 on the season and on track for the most losses in MLB history.

"I think he's developing nicely," Schaeffer said. "I can't say enough good things about Chase Dollander and the way he takes care of himself, his thought process, the way he talks about the game after it happens and sees where he went wrong and what he did right. These are all things you want to see out of a young pitcher."
