Everything was going the way the Atlanta Braves intended on Thursday afternoon against the Arizona Diamondbacks until a stunning collapse in the ninth inning sealed their fate.
Despite leading 10-4 entering the ninth inning, the Braves shockingly blew the lead and lost their fourth straight game, 11-10.

Homers from outfielders Lourdes Gurriel Jr. and Alek Thomas made it a 10-7 game before a pair of RBI singles from second baseman Ketel Marte and Ildemaro Vargas cut the deficit to 10-9. That set the stage for infielder Eugenio Suarez's RBI double while facing a full count and two outs to take the 11-10 lead.

The fact the Braves lost this game is mind-boggling considering the Diamondbacks had a 0.1% win probability in the top of the ninth.
Home runs from third baseman Austin Riley, outfielder Ronald Acuna Jr. and catcher Drake Baldwin had the Braves in good position earlier in the game.

Overall, the team had 10 runs and 12 hits, which is encouraging after a three-game stretch of scoring no more than five runs.
The series with the Diamondbacks ends in a three-game sweep for the Braves (27-34), who have lost four in a row and 11 of their last 14. This is the same Braves team that began the season 0-7 before getting to 24-24 on May 20.
According to TeamRankings, Atlanta is tied for 22nd in the league in runs per game (four), so it is hard to fathom the Braves not finding a way to win Thursday's game after scoring 10 runs for only the third time all season.
As the Braves prepare for a six-game road trip beginning Friday night at the San Francisco Giants, their pitching must improve from Thursday's stunning loss if the lack of run support throughout the season continues.
