Fever star jokes about the problem with Caitlin Clark injury
Grace Hollars/IndyStar / USA TODAY NETWORK

Certainly, no one with the Indiana Fever is particularly happy with the quad injury that has kept Caitlin Clark off the floor for the past two-plus weeks, causing her to miss five games as the Fever have slipped to 4-5 on the year.

Clark might be back on Saturday when the Fever play the Liberty, the undefeated defending champs. It was during Indiana's late two-point loss to New York that Clark was injured. Fellow guard Sophie Cunningham has also been out for five games.

Addressing the pair's absence and performance in practice, coach Stephanie White said, "I mean, we limited their reps but really tried to get them up and down the floor a little bit, start to try to get into game rhythm, game speed, game pace. Timing's a little bit off, rhythm a little bit off. But continuing to try to work them in as much as we could."

Beyond the fact that Clark is averaging 19.0 points, 9.3 assists and 6.0 rebounds this year, one other issue has arisen for the Fever with Clark unable to play, according to teammates: She can't sit still.

Star center Aliyah Boston likened Clark to an impatient tween. "Oh my gosh, she's like a little kid," Boston joked to ESPN. "She needs to keep herself entertained."

Fellow Fever teammate Lexie Hull agreed.

"She doesn't like sitting still," Hull said. "She likes being occupied and having something to do, so the coaches give her things to keep track of. I mean, you see it — she wants to be out there. She's talking to the refs, she's still very much involved."

The Fever have not committed to getting Clark back on the floor in time for Saturday. But it sounds like her teammates are ready to get her out there.
