Yankees' bats erupt, ending losing streak with win over Angels

The New York Yankees' losing streak finally came to an end, as they beat the Los Angeles Angels, 7-3, on Tuesday. Thanks to a quality start from Carlos Rodon and two home runs, the Yankees put an end to their nightmare six-game losing skid.

Rodon struck out seven batters in exactly six innings pitched, improving his record to 9-5. This comes after Rodon lost his last two starts, both to the Boston Red Sox, including one at the beginning of the losing streak.

Trailing 2-1, two Yankees slugged home runs in the bottom of the second inning to get New York out in front.

First, Trent Grisham crushed his 14th home run of the year into the stands in right field. His home run came with a runner on base and gave the Yankees a 3-2 advantage.

Grisham bolstered the bottom of New York's order all day, going 2-for-3 with two RBI and two runs scored.

Back to the top of the order, Paul Goldschmidt hit a bullet down the left field line and increased the lead to 4-2. Goldschmidt is now hitting .303 with eight homers and 32 RBI in 74 games.

Dealing with a bit of a power drought, that was Goldschmidt's first home run since June 6 and only his second of the month.

Following a rain delay, the Angels would score in the sixth. Cody Bellinger, Giancarlo Stanton, Anthony Volpe and Austin Wells then each drove in a run in the later innings, with one coming in the seventh and two in the eighth.

Aaron Judge, who is in the midst of an historic season — he's hitting .366 with 26 home runs and 60 RBI, was 1-for-3 with a walk and a run on the day.

So despite still losing the four-game series to Los Angeles, the Yankees are at least back in the win column. Now at 43-31, New York is still at the top of the American League East standings, granted its margin ahead of second-place Tampa Bay has shrunk to just two games.

The Yankees will shift their focus to the Orioles, starting a three-game set with Baltimore on Friday night from Yankee Stadium.
